How research peptides are reconstituted, stored, and handled to preserve sample integrity.
Why peptides ship lyophilized
Peptides are shipped as a freeze-dried (lyophilized) powder because they're far more stable dry than in solution. You'll see a small white cake or film at the bottom of the vial — that's the full labeled mass.
Reconstitution solvents
For research handling, lyophilized peptides are typically brought into solution with bacteriostatic water (sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative) or sterile water. We stock both as lab supplies.
Solvent is added slowly down the side of the vial, not sprayed directly onto the powder, and the vial is swirled — not shaken — until clear.
Storage & stability
Unreconstituted vials are generally stored cold and away from light. Once in solution, peptides are less stable and are refrigerated. Bacteriostatic water's preservative is what allows a multi-day working window in a lab setting.
